Well, today Friday, August 30, 2007, I have finally cut off all cream ends I had straggling. To be honest they weren't really that straggly, only to me, because my hair is extremely "nuff" (thick).
I am extremely happy about it and that I find surprising. I tho
ught I'd be very sad about loosing my length but I am not. I guess because for months now I've decided to go natural and to get my hair locked so it has been a long time coming. I'm mentally prepared. For that I am glad that I am taking my own time in going through the different phases as opposed to rushing in and learning stuff after. My natural hair is about 4 - 5inches and I got it comb twisted.
I look different and I love it. I can't wait to start my locking process which I intend to start soon. We have our little challenges to overcome first before I can invest into my hair like that. However, it is not on the backburner for sure.
You know today, the parlour I went to was discouraging me about Sisterlock saying that it would be best for me to just continue with the locking process by re twisting the coils I now have in. The proprietor told me that it would be less costly and look just as good. She says I may not be able to maintain that cost for SL and then the locks would break off because they are too fine. It seems like a lot of people think that SL is anonymous to "fine". Not realising that SL can be installed in different sizes according to hair texture, volume and so on. So I kindly informed her that I am not planning to put them in extremely fine but I certainly don't want comb twisted coils to evolve into locks. She wasn't unkind or trying to tell me what to do so I don't hold anything against her but I was just thinking that she is so misinformed about SL method and maintenance.
In reading other's blogs and journeys, I've come to realise that a lot of people find it difficult to locate persons who can maintain their natural hair. In Jamaica (Ja.) it is not that difficult at all. There are firstly parlours almost every where you go and normally at least one or two persons there can give you natural hairstyles or braids. Some of them do strictly natural hair. Some of them do strictly braiding. The one I went to today does strictly natural hair styles and they specialise in locs. So I am happy that we have that versatility here in Ja. I also have the choice of getting the real SL. Many people will tell u that they can SL but they are not certifie
d so I don't even listen to them because they are doing their own thing and calling it SL. Not that what they do does not look good but sometimes that finess is not there. I'll stick to what I have been reading about SL and I have already found a loctician. I just have not been in for consultation yet but I'll soon arrange that. She's going nowhere right now. I will also learn to maintain my hair myself so I can cut out additional expenses and still have great looking hair.
A toast.... to my natural hair and the SL method. Cheers!!
